Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. speaks out

For the past week America has been seeing the news stories and mug shot of Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., arrested in his own home in Cambridge. Now we are finally hearing the story from Dr. Gates himself.

Dr. Gates addressed The Richmond Forum in March 2008, one of our most highly-rated programs in recent years. Skip has many friends here in Richmond and we wish him the very best!

"FOOD INC" to screen in Richmond this Saturday

Food Inc
This news just in from Tricycle Gardens:

"The recently released film, Food Inc, will be opening this coming Saturday, July 11th at Movieland at Boulevard Square, 1301 N. Boulevard at West Leigh St. Showings are at 4:00 and 7:00.

Following the 4:00 show, Lisa Taranto, Director of Tricycle Gardens, will appear in a panel discussion sponsored by Whole Foods. Tricycle Gardens will have an information table in the lobby following both shows.

Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma appears in the film. He recently was a speaker for the Richmond Forum and visited two of our community gardens. We are excited that information is getting out about issues with our food supply and agricultural system that affect us all on a daily basis."

In preparation for Michael Pollan's appearance at The Forum in April with Marion Nestle, I got to take a sneak peek at some advance scenes from Food Inc and it is very well done. Check it out!

Digitized Forum Program Books

A lot of work and good content goes into The Richmond Forum's program books. This summer we're working on making an archive of Forum program books available online for subscribers, students, researchers, anyone.

Here's an initial test.
